Wisteria and Wine

Every turn and curve in Sonoma wine country reveals fresh views of pale green new leaves on vines hugging the hills in undulating patterns. Even small weathered houses, beside the larger growers, have a patch of vines. Climbing every surface, wisteria drapes gracefully over doorways, trellises and fences, the delicate blossoms perfuming the air everywhere.

Tender young plants can be seen across the road at Dry Creek Winery in Healdsburg, California.

Dappled light through the wisteria at Lambert Bridge Winery in Healdsberg.

Seen through a window, a woman tends the vines at Lambert Bridge.

We stumbled across Lambert Bridge Winery seven years ago with its welcoming picnic tables. This time we came prepared with a selection of cheeses and bread. The winery supplies the wine and glasses.

Cheers!

Thank you so much for your gracious comments about my photos about the chicks with Alden. It was fun for the four of us to attempt!-Don't know how much fun he had-but he went along pretty well for quite awhile!!

  2. Rain ~ Hello neighbor, and thank you! It really was a memorable trip...wonderful scenery, food, wine and, most of all, connecting with a dear friend. Happy to be back in (rainy!) Maine!

  3. Hello:
What a splendid idea to take your own bread and cheese and then sample the wine. We should be very much up for that!

Wisteria, in full flower, is absolutely lovely - an aristocrat of climbers!

  4. The wisteria here is elegantly drooping from the trees. Such an extravagant vine. Thanks for the trip to CA.

  5. Hello Jane and Lance Hattatt! There are many accommodating "grocery stores" in California wine country with a spectacular array of goodies. Winery picnics are a way of life and we embraced it wholeheartedly! Wisteria grows like a weed out there...more images to come.

    Thank you for stopping by!

Barbara ~ "Extravagant Vines" would be the perfect title for a book about Sonoma. The wisteria was just reaching its peak when we arrived and just beginning to fade as we left. The beautiful vines and scent were everywhere we went and will be our most lasting memory of the area.
