Aren't they marvellous, those redwoods? It's a cliche, I know, to liken being amongst them as being in a cathedral but is is true. Not much can quieten this old heart but they did.
Blue ~ Walking amongst the redwoods was the one thing I truly wanted to do while we were out in California. It is like being in a cathedral with its peace and sense of wonder. I was accused of photographing every tree in the park...and in the end, found it impossible to capture the scale and majesty of those trees.
Hello: How we should love to see for ourselves a forest of these truly amazing trees. Just occasionally one sees a single specimen in the UK, usually planted by the Victorians to commemorate a special event. But never more than one.
And don't they show how insignificant man [and woman too] is in the natural world?
Karena ~ Thank you very much! I'm on my way for a long overdue visit!
Hello Jane and Lance, I would imagine the moderate climate in the UK would be ideal for redwoods. It was awe-inspiring to be in a forest of those magnificent trees...and in a micro climate so green and lush. The atmosphere and landscape changes dramatically a few miles away. No wonder there are so many varieties of wine in California!
It was beautiful and, more than anything else, I came away feeling very moved by the optimism, the willingness to bet on a dream and the hard work of the people who live there.
